Kosher Groceries

The best source for Kosher groceries in Indianapolis is at the marsh at 86th and Ditch. There is a dry foods section as well as a fresh meat and a frozen section (you can find frozen empire chicken packages). Next to the fresh meat fridge, you have a dairy fridge (cholov yisrael milk is not available). The fresh meat section carries Solomon's for beef and Empire for chicken. Occasionally you can find cold cuts, hot dogs, salamis, etc... Note that fresh meat and chicken sells out fast and is not always in stock and when it is, there is very limited variety. Marsh does not carry any fresh kosher bakery goods. Frozen Challah is available.

The new Kosher section at the new Kroger in Nora is not bad at all. They have a nice frozen section that is better than the Marsh and they have a nice selection of dairy products and fresh Chicken and even Turkey... Not bad at all!!! (for Indianapolis that is). Dry section is eh... nothing special but it's worth looking at. Note, prices may be a little higher than Marsh.

The next best source for Kosher groceries is Kroger. They have a dry section, frozen section, fridge with hot dogs/cold cuts and cheese. The Hebrew National hot dogs, salami and cold cuts that you may find in the fridge are not recommended by most Orthodox Rabbis. Overall there is much less available at the Kroger but the variety may be a little different than the Marsh so it's worth checking out. Note: the new Kroger at Nora makes visiting this one completely worthless unless you don't want to drive the distance to Nora.

Also available is Trader Joe's. They do not have a Kosher section but they do carry Empire Chicken and Turkey. You can find a lot of other kosher items which are mixed in with everything else. Check for Hashgachas, you'll be surprised at what you may find.

In addition to the places listed above, other branches of Marsh and Kroger tend to have extremely small Kosher sections mixed in their International isles. In most stores, you can probably find Matzah, Bamba, and a very limited amount of dry goods and if you're lucky grape juice and chicken stock.
The Walmart at the corner of 86th and Michigan rd also has a miniature Kosher section. Again, don't expect much.
